I am a fully qualified professional teacher, having gained qualified teacher status in 1990 with a B.Ed (Hons), specialising in the teaching of Art and Design. Nigel has been teaching since 1990, mainly in east London. I first became interested in photography as a child, developing and printing black and white photographs with his father in the early 1970s, and has continued working with photography since.
As professional photography teacher I enjoy using the woodland scenery of Epping Forest, the architecture, the people and urban settings of London and the landscapes of Essex. I love helping others realise their photographic potential through one day 1-2-1 Tuition and Small Group Tuition, Photowalks and through project based Photography Courses.
As the author of four published novels, I use imagery and context in developing his own artistic work in the written word and photographs. I really enjoy the woodland photography of Neil Burnett, the English personality of Martin Parr and the landscapes of Ansel Adams, the black and white cinematography of Sven Nykvist, the street energy from Diado Moriyama, the colours of William Eggleston and the night photography of O. Winston Link and Todd Hido.
I offer a range of one-day photography classes and experiences, designed to develop your photographic knowledge for different situations.
Nigel Cushion Photography Tuition offers one-day photography workshops (4 hours and 2 hours), photography courses and private photography tuition for individuals and small groups, mainly based in Loughton Essex, adjacent to Epping Forest or in Canary Wharf, Barbican, Walthamstow and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. These classes and experiences are designed to develop your photographic knowledge for different situations and build towards the photography that you want to achieve.
So no matter what your reason for starting digital photography – getting a portfolio of work together for college – revisiting an interest from the past – getting out of automatic mode on your camera – or transitioning across from film – this would be a great place to start.
